How to find a new mobile phone

For those who are looking for a new mobile phone, it can be very overwhelming.

Buying a mobile phone should be easy and simple. With the rise of smart phones, this is no longer the case.

I am looking for a new mobile phone, I have a 2 year old Samsung mobile phone which is unheard of. I do not want to spend more than 25 pounds a month but I would like to have at least 300 minutes and 500GB of data download. I will share with you my quest for the ideal mobile phone:

1) Vodafone
I started my mobile phone journey with Vodafone as I have been with them for over 10 years (although I have never received any loyalty points or benefits from being such a loyal customer)
.
I do not want to be on a 24 or 18 month contract. That is too long. I switched to a SIM only contract with Vodafone in November and my bills have not been more than 25 pounds. So what can I get with my money?

BlackBerry: BlackBerry Curve 8520, Curve 3G 9300,
HTC: the HTC Wildfire only
LG: LG Cookie,
There are a number of Nokia phones on PAYG
Nokia 6700 Slide, 7230, C1-01, C2-01, C3-01, C5-03.
I can get 6 Samsung phones , C330, Ch@t 335 E1150, E2550 and the Galaxy Mini. I can get just 2 Sony Ericsson phones, the Spiro and the X10Mini Pro.

All of the Vodafone phones are available on PAYG.

Top mobile phones for teenagers

More and more children are getting mobile phones. According to the times half of British children aged 5 – 9 own a mobile phone.

Now it seems if you don’t have a mobile, you really do miss out.
You can’t call or text your friends. You can’t upload music to your phone, take pictures and then post them to facebook. So what type of phones do those kids get?

The most popular phone is the LGCookie

LG Cookie

Mobile phones for Christmas

What did you get for Christmas? I am sure some of you would have received a new mobile phone. You will be happy to have got a lovely new phone but what if it is the wrong one? Well here is some advice for those that find themselves in the situation:

1. If it is a contract phone, unfortunately you will not be able to return it. Only if the mobile phone is faulty will you be able to do so. The contract lasts for 12 or 18 months, whichever length was signed for. You can go back to the shop and speak to someone about your query of course but you cannot be guaranteed to get a refund or change the mobile phone.

2. If it is a pay as you go phone and you have not opened the packaging or inserted your SIM card, then you should be able to discuss the possibilities with the retailer.

3. If you are unable to return the phone, you could always give it away – a charitable thing to do. There are many places where you can donate to-

Mobile World Congress Barcelona

If you want to be ahead of the game and know what mobiles are coming out and what will be the latest technology to hit the market place, book yourself a ticket for the Mobile World Congress

It will be in Barcelona again and from Feb 15 – Feb 18th next year. So book yourself a ticket for the four days, it is not to be missed. That is of course, if you can afford the price tag. Like most events, it is rather pricey from 2,099 euros for a silver pass.

Last conference saw the preview of the Sony Ericsson’s first 12 mp camera mobile phone which came out in the UK in October. There was the launch of Vodafone’s HTC Magic, Palm PRe, INQ’s INQ1 and Windows Mobile 6.5 launch, all handsets that were then released later this year.

This is the place to be at, if you want to know what mobile phones will be coming out in 2010. Drop me a line and let me know if you are going.

The simplest mobile phone is the most popular

Sometimes the simplest handsets are the best.

When I went into the Orange shop over the weekend, I was surprised to see one of their most popular PAYM (pay monthly) handsets was the Nokia 6700. Is it a new smart phone? No….. it is apparently the successor to the ever so popular 6500. The main reason this has been selling so well is because of its simplicity. When Nokia first came into the market, the simple, easy to use interface caught the attention of many and its followers began.

Ofcourse there are some updates to the mobile phone, there is the GPS, Nokia Maps, 3G with HSDPA and a 5mp autofocus camera. The Nokia 6300 only had a 2mp. The Nokia 6700 is reliable and easy to use and is a traditional classic style mobile but not old fashioned in any way. The keypad has well-spaced buttons so you will be able to quickly text without making mistakes.

Oh and I forgot to mention the camera also has an LED flash and the video camera is pretty good you can record at up to VGA resolution. And yes there is an MP3 player but it can just handle a limited number of formats. You can tune into the FM radio and with RDS can see what you are listening to.

The memory is quite a lot too, there is already 170 MB of built-in memory, enough for 40 MP3 tracks, but there is also a microSD card slot which can hold cards up to 8GB.

So next time you are looking for a new phone, you might just want to have a look at those mobile phones that aren’t as flashy and as big as the others. Sometimes the best things come in small packages. Those sticking to a budget will be pleased to know it is free on pay monthly contracts of 20 pounds per month.
